The band “The Speakeasies Swing band” is a Greek swing band, famous not only in Greece but internationally. They gave us a very pleasant and retro interview! You can enjoy it:

1. What is your relationship concerning the bans in your life? What would you do in case of a potential Prohibition?

Generally speaking, we do not feel good about bans. In case of a potential Prohibition (at least for the half of the band members) that would mean war for us and probably for the whole country.

2. In which chronological period would you like to live and play music? Apart from your music, have you introduced a retro and vintage mood in your everyday life?

Without a doubt, a retro and vintage mood has affected our life. Τhe Swing is a kind of music with a great culture and a special lifestyle. But of course, everyone is affected by it, differently. I think our favourite time is now (or after 30 years when this tough time probably is expired). Also, we would like to visit the1930s but it is quite possible that we wouldn’t like the reality of this era either.

3. When someone listens to your song “To Danio” (translates as “The bank loan”), they can actually perceive a depiction of the behavior of Greek society before the financial crisis? Currently, Greece is in a difficult situation due to this behavior.

Yes, maybe! But the lyrics focus more on describing  a newlywed-family guy who tries to do the best for his family in difficult times because at the end of the day this is what he cares about.

4. We have noticed that the cover of your first complete album (Land Of Plenty) as well as your band’s name make sociopolitical statements. Do you (as artists) share the opinion that music alone is not enough for a social awakening? If your answer is positive, what else do you think  will contribute to such an effort (of social awakening)?

It would be truly impossible for someone living in Greece not to have been affected by the country’s situation of the past 7-8 years. Thus, we played our part in any effort that seemed or seems to be made. It goes without saying that music alone is not enough for a  social awakening but at least it would go well with it (Imagine a rebellion with the soundtrack of Benny Goodman’s song “Sing sing sing”). Now, as for the rest (other possible efforts for social awakening) we are not really experts in order to discuss it.

5. Have you decided on which song you will shoot a new music video from your album “Land Of Plenty” ? If your answer is positive, why did you choose it? Τhe “Black Swap Village” music video is very impressive. Will the next one be equally remarkable?

We haven’t decided even if we are going to shoot a music video let alone for which song!
The success of the music video of our song “Black Swap Village” is on our mind and for this reason I have been stressed up, as well as some members of the band. Nevertheless, this success inspires us to work harder and create a new music video  more remarkable than the previous(“Black Swap Village”) (we hope ).

6. We have read in an interview of yours that you do not dance swing. How do you feel when you excite your fans to dance swing regardless if they can dance or not ?

Yes, we do not dance (before at 04:00 – 05:00 a.m at least), however we really enjoy watching our fans dance! We cannot wait for them to dance. Also, sometimes we even ask them to dance, especially when they are beginners (on swing dancing).

7. Will you soon release a new album? If the answer is positive, would you tell us some words about that?

There is an idea about a new album but it is very early to discuss it yet. I hope I will have news for you next time!

8. Your swing rhythm is going to travel this summer in Greece and internationally?

I delayed sending you these answers and summer is almost over! Anyway, we traveled a lot around Europe from May to June (England, Italy, Budapest) and our beautiful province ( Kavala, Kastoria etc.) Now we have one concert on 6th of August at Kudu Beach Bar at the peninsula of Halkidiki and after that we are officially on vacation until September!
